Ministry Purpose
Your role is to provide safe, welcoming, accepting care for students in grades 5-12. Your ministry responsibilities include leading small groups, leading activities, hanging out with teens wherever they hang out, chaperoning on field trips, and praying for each teenager. You should exhibit Christ-like patience and love, relating God’s truth to children in a way they can understand, helping them to see the relevance of Christian faith in today’s world.

Requirements
- We ask that you serve 1-4 times per month and attend regular

  church services regularly.
- For the safety of all children, complete and pass a volunteer

background check (we only check for sexually related crimes).
- Have the patience and the heart to minister to teenagers.

Service Expectations
- Arrive 15 minutes before scheduled activity time.
- Pray! Pray! Pray! Pray individually for the children as they

hangout, as they participate in Bible study, and as you spend time

with them. Pray for the other volunteers that work alongside you.
- Report concerns or ideas for improvement to the Ministry Team

  Leader.
- Attend occasional Team meetings.

Interacting with Parents
- Always thank the parent for bringing their teens. It is our privilege

to serve and minister to them.
- Always tell the parents about what their children learned that day.
- Always tell the parents about any events (games, activities, and

  memorable moments with the child).
- Always smile, (even if you are tired.)

Teaching Teenagers
- A teen’s heart is so inquisitive and moldable, so we want to use this

time to teach them about God’s love and God’s word in a high-

  energy, interactive and tangible way.
- We’ll provide the basic curriculum; you bring a loving heart and an
  energetic spirit.
- Look for opportunities to talk with the teens about Biblical truths as

they share about their hopes, dreams, and fears.
- It is important to be able to express excitement, energy and love for

God’s word during small group and large group activities. We want

students to recognize God’s word as truth, not as just a story.
- You are a model for the teenagers wherever they see you – at the

ball field, at the grocery store, and at the movies. Be aware that they

will be watching for your Godly character wherever you go, and be

ready to embrace their presence gladly when you see them in

  unexpected places around town.
- Encourage teens to REACH OUT to their peers by being a good

friend, praying for them, and inviting them to church activities.
- Be accepting of them – even when they look, talk, and act in ways

that are foreign to you. Make a habit of looking beyond

appearances to the heart of each person.
- Watch for natural opportunities to start conversations and show that

you care about them. Find something that you have in common.

Find something you admire in them. Ask about their hobbies.

Follow their teams in the newspaper. Check out their music. Enter

their world and you will have opportunities to help them REACH

  UP to Christ.
